“Cheers!”

Another fantastic year is almost behind us. I hope you have all enjoyed our beautiful fall weather and I am sure everyone is now looking forward to the holiday season and the start of a new year with new opportunities and surprises for us all! Cheers…..to each of you!

  “Add Sparkle to Your Life”

Today chandeliers are not just for the uber rich. Modest homes, mansions, contemporary and traditional homes are all appropriate settings for adding some sparkle to our everyday life.

Kitchen and bathrooms have become popular locations for chandelier. Colourful/creative chandeliers add drama in the kitchen; chandelier sconces in the powder room add a sparkle; a small chandelier in the bedroom gives a luxurious feel to the room.

There are no rules when it comes to materials and styles of chandeliers. It is not uncommon to see a rustic cast iron with crystals, or a chandelier with different coloured crystals. There are many options from traditional finishes to multi tone finishes created by paint and chemical processes.

Today, with all of the available choices, finding a suitable chandelier for your individual taste can be a fun experience.

  “Trends for 2005”

Clients always ask “what is the next hot colour or hot home décor accessory”? Well, home décor is like clothing fashions…..you may purchase a few trendy items of clothing, but you do not usually completely replace your wardrobe with the latest trend. Nor do you need to change your total home décor the moment every new magazine article is printed! Add and change accessories such as pillows, candles and even valances to incorporate new trends and colours into your home.

Style…..still a more casual…looser look.

Colours….yellow greens, orange, browns, gold (we can only hope that the browns and golds do not apply to appliances!). I think that in the latter part of 2005 and into 2006 we will see more of bright medium green and a dark coral colour emerging. Keep in mind that the new ethnic mix in the population is demanding brighter colours traditional to their various cultures.

Wall coverings…..are back (but then so is the Poncho!). You will see more metallic and grass cloth as well as multi-layered prints in wall covering fashions.

  “Holiday Entertaining Tips”
  1. Create the mood, by dimming the lights or place small lamps on entrance hall tables, the powder room counter etc.
  2. The scent of cranberry is fresh and delicious. Light Cranberry scented candles or buy some Cranberry potpourri.
  3. Mix and match your plates and dishes. Buy some festive salad plates and/or mugs and use them with plain white, red, or green, place settings. You do not have to buy a whole set of holiday dishes to spice up the table.
  4. Choose a centrepiece with lots of evergreen and mums. Mums usually last a long time. With a spray of cool water everyday, it should last quite a while and you do not have to rush out to buy fresh flowers every time you entertain.
  5. Make your meal planning simple…..after all….it is your holiday time too!
