RW INTERIORS Fall 2009 Newsletter
Yes....we are back....in Canada.....in Toronto! It has been an action packed year from over the top opulence of Dubai, UAE to the simple bright colors of saris in India.
Life changes....daily in fact and during the past year the world economic crisis has changed many aspects of our world. Design trends in decor are no exception and colors, fabrics, and furniture reflect the world as a whole.
Trend Notes This fall, the colors are softer reflecting tougher economic times for many. The softer palettes age more gracefully than the past overpowering statement tones.
- Mauves and soft purples are paired with magenta and peacock tones
- Yellows from soft buttery to citron and lime are subdued by pairing with neutrals, beige and natural greens
- Brown and blue is still a powerful combination however, the blue tones are more muted than in the past.
- Gold is back, but in a soft muted tone. You will see more kitchen and bath faucets in this new color instead of the silver and stainless tones.
- Beiges are now more camel colored.
- Oranges have more red in them and are not so harsh.
You will notice that bigger ticket items are shown in more neutral/safe colors which will add longevity.
Green, sustainable items inspired by mother nature are the new neutral in accessories. Mirrors, shelves, benches, chairs in woods and bamboo are examples.
Bamboo, hemp, and linen fabrics are growing in popularity. Bamboo is great for upholstery fabric.
Lattice and caning patterns in textiles are emerging in the marketplace. Vegetable dyes and traditional blocking patterns from India are in trend.
During the past few years, the contemporary clean uncluttered look has taken centre stage over antique furnishings. A number of my clients with antiques have said..."what do we do?". My advice, was keep them...and update them. It is nearly impossible to replicate the quality that many antiques have. Refinishing the frame and an updated fabric on the upholstery can give a complete new life to good quality furniture. The trend is changing from "buy and replace" to "reuse and renew".
RW INTERIORS is offering a three hour "Assess and Advise" session in conjunction with the reuse and renew philosophy at a special rate for the GTA area. We will come to your home, review your needs then assess what can be reused and advise what changes are required to give your home a new look but reusing as much as possible. Please contact Rhonda at rhonda@rwinteriors.com to book your appointment (some conditions apply) to make the changes so you.... LOVE where YOU live.
